Along with the help of Monica Bunde (Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce), Ann Rota (Tourism) for the Town of Amherstburg) and Peggy Thompson (River Town Times) we coined the Phrase “Amherstburg You’ll Love it Here” in early 2016. We did this because our towns image was being challenged because of political misgivings. I bought 100 window stickers and invited all the local businesses to a meeting at our Libro Centre. 50 business people showed up and got on board to let the world know that we are here and we are open for business. I ended up with all 100 stickers in local businesses windows. In March of 2017 at an Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce dinner I received a Business Excellence Award for Community Involvement for this initiative.
SECRET SANTA
For the past 13 years my wife Janet and I have spear headed this program. In November of each year, we host a Secret Santa Benefit Dinner at Mealtime Express which my wife has owned for 32 years. We donate all the food; The wait staff and cooks are all volunteers. Many local businesses support us with Raffle Prizes. We sell 300 3 pc chicken dinners and every penny goes to local kids for Christmas. This past year we raised over $15,000.00. Once again, the Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce recognized us for our Community Service. Something we are very proud of.
